Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 15:42–44
We know that our earthly bodies inherited the consequence of sin, which is death. We also know that sin always results in death (Romans 1:32, Romans 5:12, Romans 6:16, Romans 6:21, Romans 6:23, Romans 8:6, Galatians 6:8). But the Good News through Christ is that we can have abundant and eternal life. God had Paul write this in 1 Corinthians 15:42–44, “So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.” God reminded the believers in Corinth, and it’s a great reminder for us today, that we were born with these perishable bodies. The bodies we currently live in will not last. No matter how hard mankind seeks to find ways to defeat death, there is only ONE who has the power to defeat death and that is our God and King. We already know from 1 Corinthians 15:26 that He will defeat death last of all. But God also tells us that He will raise us up and give us an imperishable body. Though what we currently live in is dishonored, weak, and natural because of our fleshly nature, we will be raised glorified, strong, and spiritual. We have a lot to look forward to in our resurrection.
Challenge & Application
Why is it important to remember that this body is not designed to last but that God will resurrect it to perfection?
How are you honoring our Lord each day through your body even though it’s perishable and weak?
