Day 2

Scripture to Read: Daniel 6:4–5

God used Daniel because Daniel was willingly guided, directed, energized, and empowered by God. As Christians, we have the same Holy Spirit, not just coming upon us, but indwelling us with all of Himself. God gives us His Spirit so we can serve Him with excellence in our craft, profession, or skillset. When we serve our Lord wholeheartedly, even lost people will recognize something different about us, the same way the people in Daniel’s day recognized that he “possessed an extraordinary spirit.” That is why God tells us in Ephesians 6:5–6 that we must “be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as to Christ; 6 not by way of eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart.” God tells us almost the same thing in Colossians 3:22–23. When we choose to live for our Lord and honor Him through our lives, we must be ready for spiritual battles because the spiritual forces of wickedness (Ephesians 6:12) want to discredit us and remove us from being salt and light in this lost world. We read in Daniel 6:4–5 how the commissioners and satraps looked for a way to bring an accusation against Daniel. But Daniel was so faithful in his walk with our Lord that they couldn’t find an accusation against him. So, they looked for an accusation against him with regard to his walk with God. Live as God commands in Philippians 2:15, and don’t fear the battle.

Challenge & Application

• Why did Daniel stand out among the other leaders in Persia, and how does that relate to us? • Why should we expect opposition when we are living for our Lord and honoring Him in all areas of our lives?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

From the end of Daniel 5, we know that Babylon had fallen and Persia had conquered Babylon, so, as we read in Daniel 6, Darius the Mede was the new ruler. Remember that in Daniel 1–5, Babylon was in power, but in Daniel 6, Babylon had been overtaken, and Persia was in charge. As a reminder, Daniel would have been in his early eighties. Daniel...

Day 4

Daniel had been walking with God since he was young. Remember that in Daniel 1, when Babylon conquered Israel, Daniel would have been about fifteen years old when he was taken into captivity. We also know from Daniel 1 that Daniel had a strong foundation in his walk with our Lord as a fifteen-year-old, and from what God has shown us through o...

Day 5

Daniel did not compromise His walk with our Lord, and we know from Daniel 6:11–13 that his accusers quickly reported to Darius the king that Daniel had broken the law the king had set in place. In Daniel 6:12–15, we see how Daniel’s enemies had set him up. We read in Daniel 6:12, Then they approached and spoke before the king about the king’...

Day 6

God reveals to us Darius’ heart in Daniel 6:14, “Then, as soon as the king heard this statement, he was deeply distressed and set his mind on delivering Daniel; and even until sunset he kept exerting himself to rescue him.” From what God shows us, Darius realized he had been manipulated. Darius saw through the motive of Daniel’s accusers, and...

Day 7

As we read Daniel 6:19–20, we see that Darius was quite anxious to see how God worked on Daniel’s behalf. We read, “Then the king arose at dawn, at the break of day, and went in haste to the lions’ den. 20 When he had come near the den to Daniel, he cried out with a troubled voice. The king spoke and said to Daniel, “Daniel, servant of the li...
