Scripture to Read: Daniel 6:19–28
As we read Daniel 6:19–20, we see that Darius was quite anxious to see how God worked on Daniel’s behalf. We read, “Then the king arose at dawn, at the break of day, and went in haste to the lions’ den. 20 When he had come near the den to Daniel, he cried out with a troubled voice. The king spoke and said to Daniel, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you constantly serve, been able to deliver you from the lions?” Could God have chosen to allow Daniel to die? Of course, He could, but He didn’t. God always fulfills His perfect will, and as He works, lives are changed. Darius was not a follower of God, but he knew how powerful Daniel’s God was and that He was the only God capable of delivering Daniel. Daniel’s response, though, reveals his personal relationship with God. We read in Daniel 6:21–22, Then Daniel spoke to the king, “O king, live forever! 22 My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths and they have not harmed me, inasmuch as I was found innocent before Him; and also toward you, O king, I have committed no crime.” Notice what Daniel says in verse 22, “My God…” because Daniel had a deep intimacy with our Lord and had been walking with him for over sixty-plus years. We also read in Daniel 6:24 the consequences Daniel’s accusers suffered, along with their wives and children. Daniel trusted God, and God fulfilled Romans 12:9. God blessed Daniel abundantly (Daniel 6:28) for His glory.
Challenge & Application
• Read Daniel 6:19–28 again and list the things God did on Daniel’s behalf and how Daniel trusted God through this situation.
• List the attributes of God that Darius mentions in Daniel 6:26–27 and then list how you have seen God actively work on your behalf.
