Day 4

Scripture to Read: Luke 12:42–48

Jesus did answer Peter in Luke 12:42–44, “And the Lord said, ‘Who then is the faithful and sensible steward, whom his master will put in charge of his servants, to give them their rations at the proper time? 43 Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes. 44 Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions.’” Jesus made it clear that what He was teaching was meant for all of His followers. Every follower of Christ must live as a faithful and wise steward of all that God has entrusted to us as followers of Christ. God tells us in 1 Peter 4:10–11, “As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” Since God has given all of His children “a special gift,” all must be wise in serving well with the gift(s) from our Lord. Those who misuse their position and neglect their calling will face judgment. This is about punishment and accountability. The greater the knowledge of God’s will, the greater the responsibility to obey it. This aligns with James 3:1.

Challenge & Application

What gift(s) has God given you so that you can fulfill His purpose and plans for His pleasure? How are you making sure that you are living as a faithful steward of all that you’ve been given by God and His Spirit in you?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

In our last set of devotions, we know our Lord told us not to be greedy and not to worry. We must be thankful for all the Lord has provided for us and know He is constantly working in us and through us. As God led Luke to write, we now read in Luke 12:35–36, “Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit. 36 Be like men who are waiting for...

Day 2

As Jesus’ followers, we must live with expectant anticipation of His return while serving Him wholeheartedly until He returns. God had Luke record this in Luke 12:37–38, “Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, an...

Day 3

Living in constant readiness for the return of our Lord is something we must choose to do. There are many things that distract us from focusing on Christ’s return and if we let those distractions get the best of us, we’ll miss out on the blessing. God had Luke record this in Luke 12:39–40, “But be sure of this, that if the head of the house h...

Day 5

Jesus’ teachings were sometimes easy to understand and at other times harder to understand. As God led Luke to write, Jesus said in Luke 12:49–53, “I have come to cast fire upon the earth; and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished! 51 Do you suppose that I came...

Day 6

Jesus would go back and forth as He taught, sometimes speaking directly to His disciples and sometimes addressing the crowd that was there with them. God had Luke record this in Luke 12:54–56, “And He was also saying to the crowds, ‘When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming,’ and so it turns out. 55 And...

Day 7

Jesus continued to rebuke the crowd as God had Luke record in Luke 12:57–59, “And why do you not even on your own initiative judge what is right? 58 For while you are going with your opponent to appear before the magistrate, on your way there make an effort to settle with him, so that he may not drag you before the judge, and the judge turn y...
