Day 6

Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 10:11–13

Through Paul, God tells us today why He gave all of the examples, as we read in 1 Corinthians 10:11–13, “Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. 12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.” God tells us through Paul that all the examples God had Paul use were meant as examples for all of His children. God made sure they were recorded to warn everyone who would follow Him as their God and King. Then, God gave the Corinthian Christians a warning and told them that if they thought they were resistant to those kind of temptations due to their overconfidence, they had better be careful. God warns in Proverbs 16:18, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling.” Then, God reminded them, through Paul, that the temptations in their lives were no different from those the Israelites experienced or anyone else goes through. What they, and all Christians, need to know is that God is faithful. He never allows any temptation to be more than any of His children can stand. When Christians are tempted, God shows us the way out so that we can endure.

Challenge & Application

Why did God have all of the examples of disobedience recorded in His Word, and how do those examples help protect us today? How does God show His faithfulness in our temptations, and what must we do when we’re tempted?

Day 1

God has continual warnings throughout His Word for His children so that we do not walk as lost people walk. God used Paul to share with the believers in Corinth not to walk as the disobedient children of Israel walked after they had been delivered from the bondage of Egypt, as recorded in the Book of Exodus. We read in 1 Corinthians 10:1–5, “...

We read in 1 Corinthians 10:8, “Nor let us act immorally, as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day.” The children of Israel (in Numbers 25:1–9) had chosen to turn th...

As we move forward, we read today what God had Paul record in 1 Corinthians 10:10, “Nor grumble, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer.” To grumble means to have unjustified discontentment. God use...

Day 7

God had Paul warn the Christians in Corinth—and this warning remains relevant for all Christians today—to guard against any kind of idolatry. God wants all of His children to flee from the worship of any kind of idols. God had Paul use the example of the Lord’s Supper. We must realize that when we take the cup at the Lord’s Supper, it serves ...
